Blood Pressure:
Function of heart is to keep up the blood circulation in body. When heart pumps blood through the measurement of the force exerted on the walls of the arteries is called blood pressure. The pressure of blood is determined by a number of factors: the flexibility and size of arteries, and the amount and force by which blood is pumped. The blood pressure in all human beings keeps on changing. The change depends on the medication used, physical and emotional state, posture, temperature, diet and activity.
How to measure the blood pressure?
For the measurement of blood pressure one’s sleeves must be rolled up to bare the upper arm. Thee person must be seated in a posture that his or her arm should be resting on the table. Arm must be slightly bent so the level remains equal to heart. The blood pressure is measured in millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and commonly given two numbers. it is said that 120 over 80 (written 120/80) is the ideal blood pressure.
• The top or upper number is the reading of pressure when the heart contracts and exerts maximum pressure. It is the systolic blood pressure reading.
• The diastolic blood pressure reading is the bottom number representing the minimum pressure in the arteries when the heart is not in motion.
