Introduction of Ovarian Cancer ?
The ovarian cancer is known as silent killer due to its mild symptoms in early stages that made the detection of disease difficult. The disease is only detected when it reaches its developed stage. It is estimated that one third of women in United States suffer from one or another type of cancer where one or one and half per cent of these cases are discovered to indulge one or two ovaries
It is not impossible to determine the ovary cancer but complicated. The initial symptoms are meek. We have here by placed some signs that must be noticed for avoiding the cancer in its early stages.
- In the pelvic region, abnormal feeling of discomfort or fullness;
- Gas, swelling, indigestion without any reason that cannot be countered by antacids;
- During sexual intercourse feeling pain;
- Extraordinary bleeding; and
- Abdomen getting swelled and felling pain.
However, it is also informed that these symptoms are not necessarily of ovarian cancer but in case some of these types appear, the sufferer must consult doctor. An early discovered ovarian cancer is 90 per cent curable but unfortunately it is tough to detect the disease. By the time this cancer is detected, about 75 per cent of the ovarian cancer will be spread in the abdomen and a majority of patients die within a time span of five years.
How it may happen? Or Are you endangered?
Here we have brought into context some reasons that can expose you to the ovarian cancer.
- The risk of one’s getting ovarian cancer increases three times if an immediate family member like daughter, sister or mother is or has remained a patient. It means that you are five to seven times more vulnerable of getting attacked.
- If the cause is genetic, it is a characteristic of ovarian cancer that it appears 10 years earlier in successive generation that means if you are a patient at the age of 50s then your daughter will suffer at the age of 40s.
- Those women who sprinkle powders on their genital areas increase the risk by 70 per cent where feminine deodorants almost doubles the risk of getting ovarian cancer.
- Compared to those women who have no babies, the ladies who have conceive or given birth to two or three children are more vulnerable. Where ladies with five or more children are 50 per cent less in danger where feeding your children enormously saves you.
Precautions Of Ovarian Cancer
There are some primary things that you must keep in mind and practice to avoid the trouble.
- A family that has patients of ovarian cancer or breast cancer must go through genetic counseling. Oophorectomy is a good option for the family members as it decreases the risk by 75 per cent to 90 per cent.
- If a woman uses contraceptives for at least five years only then she decreases the risk of getting infected by the ovarian cancer. If the usage continued, the disease can be prohibited for a life time. To lower the risk you should use the pill longer.
- Ladies must avoid the use of powders and deodorants to decrease the risk.
- It is advised that women must feed their children this helps in not only improving growth of their babies but also in the better health of mothers.
- Tubal ligation is helpful in reducing the danger up to 70 per cent.
Cure and Treatment of Ovarian Cancer
Regular gynecological examination helps in detecting the cancer in an early stage. During pelvic and rectal examination, physician palpitate ovaries for the presence of ovarian cysts or fibroid tumors and notice abnormalities on the spot. He or she will be able to refer the patient to further tests like X-ray or ultrasound. Laparoscopy can be also done in case required.
The latest methods include ultrasound coupled with blood test. The blood test is projected to detect the CA 125 protein in the blood that is present in those women that suffer form ovarian cancer.
Tests are helpful in guessing the dieses but no test is yet proclaimed reliable. Ultrasound gives ample information on the changes in the ovaries but it alones is insufficient in diagnosing the cancer. The CA 125 results positive for not only ovarian cancer but also for pregnancy, pelvic infection, fibroid tumors and endometriosis. These tests are promising and are waiting for further development.
The treatment varies with respect to a number of factors. A diagnostic procedure involving surgery is carried out initially to determine the stage of the ovarian cancer. It has stages from I to VI, I the earliest and IV being the last stage. The treatment involves grade and stage, the grade of malignancy is defined by the pathologist.
Oophorectomy - hysterectomy with salpingo – the removal the fallopian tubes and one or two ovaries will be done right after the diagnosis. Women who are interested in having more children can keep one ovary while removing the infected one. Following the hysterectomy, chemotherapy or radiation comes.
The best way to omit the chances of ovarian cancer is to regularly go through pelvic examination.
